My Outer Banks Vacation in (iphone) Pictures

Like the rest of my Outer Banks vacation, these photos are a little lazy. That's to say - they were all taken on my iphone. I took another camera, I swear! But when it came down to it, I just didn't use it much.

I decided to post the best all in one huge entry - Enjoy!

aaand we're back!

I returned home this morning after my week-long trip to the Outer Banks, NC.

Little did I know that it would also be a week-long vacation from the internet. I'll admit - it felt kinda nice. And since I have a new fangled iphone, I was able to keep tweeting, if not blogging.

I'll do a full post with vacation photos (and vacation crafts!), but right now I have a pressing question: What blog posts did I miss this week? I'm dreading looking at my Google Reader, so link me if you found or posted something awesome.

vacation knittin'

On Thursday morning, I set off on an adventure. The first leg was less than glamourous - I took the Megabus home to Michigan - but yesterday my sister, Meghan, and I drove for nine hours through two states, heading towards the Outer Banks, NC. The Outer Banks is one of the most beautiful places in America, and our family has vacationed there since 1997, so I'm glad to be on the road.

But I definitely need knitting...

vacation styleeee

Luckily, Allyson from Sweatshop of Love is once again hosting a Selfish Knit-Along! The sweater I've chosen is Julie Crawford's Make Up Your Mind, and I'm knitting it in Knit Pick's Comfy Fingering in Seafoam. My tropical color choice is definitely in the minority, but it will go perfectly with the new swim suit I ordered from Victoria's Secret.

I'll be on the road for six hours again today before reaching OBX (the Outer Banks according to popular bumper stickers), so I'll have plenty of time to make major progress on my sweater. A good thing, considering I cast on three weeks after everyone else!

I'm back!

Hello friends!

I took a little vacation with my family and Chris to a small beach house on Lake Michigan in Harbert, Michigan - quite the bustling metropolis. We swam, we ate, we biked, and of course, we buried my brother in the sand.

Whenever we go on vacation, my mom takes a journal and paints watercolors of our trip. We went to the beach almost every day, and this is one of her little paintings.

I promise I'll make up for my absence with lots of fun stuff this week - stay tuned!

And now for the pictures

Huzzah!

I'm back!
That's me, my dad and my little brother, Patrick, by Cinderella's castle at the Magic Kingdom. Although I brought my digital camera, I only ended up using 10 of my Fuji Instax photos. I'll share those with you tomorrow.

When I came back on Wednesday afternoon, the weather was absolutely terrible. I went from 80 degrees and sun in Florida to 40 degrees and rain in Chicago. However, today it is absolutely beautiful out, so I took the opportunity to take a lovely outdoor photo of my travel project:
Doesn't this little pin cushion look so spring-y in the grass? I have seen this design all over the web, and Leanda from One Loop Short has a version for sale. I must admit, however, that I did not buy it. It is simply 8 of my favorite hexagon motifs, crocheted with a 1.25mm hook and DMC Perle Cotton thread, and then joined together in a creative way. I stuffed it with some leftover white muslin, since the holes are pretty big, and I wanted it to have some weight. It was so easy to travel with, and I had half of it done after the first day of travel. On the way to Orlando, I sat next to a very friendly Southwest pilot who said "That is the smallest knitting I have ever seen!"

Ok, hopefully I'm off for a bike ride!
