A pair of socks and Flickr weirdos

closeup eyelet sock

I finished these socks awhile ago, and I think they're my most successful to date. Just like my striped socks, they were knit two at a time, toe-up. These are from my Knit Picks Sock Kit, and knit with Stroll Sock.

But here's what I really wanted to talk about: Putting these photos up on Flickr made me a bit nervous.

Eyelet Socks

I rarely get weird comments on this blog, or Twitter, or Instagram, but the weirdos love me on Flickr. Apparently, posting a picture of yourself in a sweater is an invitation to get that photo added to an unsavory-type group. And by "unsavory," I mean nudity. Why does a picture of me in a sweater appeal to those who are moderating porn groups?!

So yes, I'm a bit worried about the fate of these pictures of my feet. Let's just try to appreciate the knitting, and not sexualize it, ok?

  1. So true! Once I took a pic of my running shoes for a 365 daily project and im thinking its a dumb, boring photo, but as soon as it was uploaded it was favorited by a couple of shoe fettishists with a photo stream full of old, nasty asic insoles and such. It made me sicker than if I had seen gratuitous nudity. I almost quit Flickr, but finally decided the ease of it and my photo groups were too good. so, i block anyone with private photostreams that wants access to mine, anyone whose stream is censored for my filter, and anyone who has favorited lots of shoe photos. I mean, we laugh about it now, but... yuck! Since then, I've had any knit socks, some martial arts photos (?) and some sweater photos favorited by people called mohairlovr, and sock-worshipper. It's an element of Flickr that I really hadn't expected to encounter.

    1. Exactly! It's just so surprising! Everyone is mostly supportive and lovely. And then someone has to go and ruin it...

  2. Is there a way to not let people add your photos to groups? I have no idea, it just seems like there should be.

    1. Probably, but then you'd also screen out the supportive artsy people, and that seems like a shame, right?
