Honors Geometry on Knit Picks! (and the winner of the Giveaway)

Exciting news! My Honors Geometry pattern just went up on Knit Picks as part of the IDP program.

Honors Geometry on KP

Knit Picks makes it so fun to pick out yarn for their IDP projects - you can just drag and drop your color choices and see which look good together. For this sample, I had fun with some new colors. I knit it in Wool of the Andes in Fedora (brown), Lullaby (dark purple), Fairy Tale (magenta) and Avocado (green).

And thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway for my new pattern, Julep Jacket. The winner is...

Holla Knits Spring Blog Tour (with a Giveaway!)

I showed you my new design, Julep Jacket, on Monday, but there's a lot more of Holla Knits amazingness where that came from...

There's a two-way tie for My Favorite Design in this issue, and it's between Stefanie Pollmeier's Nachtfalter (above) and Emma Welford's Just Beachy (below). Which to knit first? Both are super cute California-appropriate summer tops.

These designs aren't the only lacy, summery designs in this issue, though.

Tessa Gregorio created the lovely Lady Bat (above), and Courtney Spainhower's Meeting Point combines lace with geometry.

But if you're not quite ready for light, lacy knits, there's still something for you in the form of Allyson Dykhuizen's El Matador, a bobble-encrusted cape!

Each pattern is available for $6 on the Holla Knits site

So, who wants to win a copy of my Julep Jacket pattern?

I'm giving away one copy to a lucky reader - just comment below, and make sure to leave your email address!

The giveaway will close next Friday, April 26th at midnight. In the mean time, check out the rest of the blog tour:

April 17 - Canary Knits
April 18 - Yarn Hollow

April 24 - Pink Brutus Knits
April 25 - Rewolluzza
April 26 - Knits in Class

May 1 - Masi Knits

Giveaway - The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book

This past Christmas, my mother gifted me The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book.

I'm a sucker for vintage and vintage-inspired patterns, so I requested it, thinking it might have a few fun patterns. The photography looked amazing from the promo pictures online, and I love a knitting book with great photography - just inspiring, you know?

I was not prepared for the wealth of information this book contains! Not only does it have great vintage-inspired patterns with gorgeous photos (for men and women, both), it includes the entire history of the Ohio Knitting Mills. From inception to designers and designs, there are lots of interesting details about running a knitting mill in the early 20th century. Each pattern is inspired by not just one sweater, but many, and there are great photos of these lovely vintage sweaters.

Now, if you're like me - you'll love the mix of interesting history and hip patterns, with a great visual aesthetic. Lucky for you, when my mom ordered this book for me, she accidentally clicked twice, and ordered two. So you can thank Jean M. Canavan for this giveaway.

To enter:
  • Just leave a comment!
  • For fun, tell me which decade inspires you most (I love the 60's. So much fashion packed into 10 years!)
  • Leave your email in your comment - written like this: katie (at) gmail (dot) com
  • Open to everyone
The giveaway will close Tuesday, May 10th at 9am. I'll pick the winner randomly at that time. If you're bored, hop over to my mom's blog and thank her for accidentally sponsoring this giveaway. She's a really talented watercolor artist, so there's lots to see!

Good luck!

Ok, so I got a little carried away...

maybe I went a bit overboard...

I started making a few of these finger-knit friendship bracelets to send to some college friends, and I just couldn't stop! They're so fun and easy, and before I knew it, I had a lot. Soooo many.

winnerrr!

I enter a ton of blog giveaways, but I rarely ever win - luck of the draw! So when I got an email from Julia & Yuriy of Mr & Mrs. Globetrot, saying that I won their giveaway, I was extra excited.

Julia & Yuriy took 6 months to travel the world after their September wedding, and they post tons of gorgeous pictures and interesting stories of the people and places they've seen. After taking so many awesome pictures, they opened a store for their prints when they returned to the states - Handle with Care.

They sent me a t-shirt! I love the cute illustration. You can get one for yourself or look at their pretty prints here.

Happy December!

I feel like December is really winter. November is just like - "maybe it will snow, but hopefully not." Once I went to the beach in November in Chicago, so really, I will probably never be able to take it seriously ever again. I mean - I swam. in. the. lake. So yeah, November is not winter.

But December - it's cold.

And on that note - the giveaway! Thank you to everyone who entered - reading your stories was amazing. Random.org tells me the winner is...

technical difficulties....

Sorry for the lack of blog-age around here. We have been very unhappy with our ISP for awhile (who shall remain nameless...) so we've been trying to switch for the past week or so, meaning we have not had any internet at home, a sad situation.

Ooo, and these little labels. I ordered them awhile ago from a rather generic label website and I just looove them, but I keep forgetting to sew them on things! The next batch of stuff will have them, I promise (myself).

Also in the past week or three I've noticed a little bump in followers - Welcome, new friends! Thanks for all the kind comments, I'm glad you're here!

I'm counting down to 100 posts now (this should be 92?), and I'm thinking about a doing a 100th Post Giveaway! What kinds of things would you like to win? My creations? Craft Supplies? Vintage... something?

Giveaway Winner and an Interview

Thank you, everyone who entered my giveaway! There were 90 of you, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your comments. I think the overall winner for 'favorite book' was Pride & Prejudice, which I have never actually read. So I'll get on that.

Now on to the winner:
Annnndd number 45:
Congratulations, sy! I will be emailing you later today for your mailing address, etc.

Gwen did a little interview with me over at the Brain Surgeon Theater blog. It has a bunch of crafty stuff in it, so if you're new to my blog, head on over and read all about it!

It's the day of the Giveaway!

Yay! As part of Sew Mama, Sew's giveaway day, I will join over 250 generous bloggers in giving something away. Huzzah!

Here's what you can win from me:
An embroidered wall hanging, handmade by me. This Alice in Wonderland-inspired hanging is just over 4.5" at the diameter, and is mounted on a hand-painted wooden frame. The pattern is my own.
A felt birdie brooch, also handmade. It's about 2" at the widest point, and the pin back is securely sewn on.

Also included in the package will be some sewing supplies - two remnants of vintage plaid wool, a yard of vintage lilac pompom trim, 5 skeins of brightly colored embroidery floss, and a pretty patterned pillowcase (the background).
So the winner, which I will select at random, will get everything you see pictured above!

To enter, just leave a comment on this post and tell me one of three things:
1. A book, album/band or movie you would recommend
2. Your favorite craft
3. Your favorite project of all the projects I have blogged about

Alright, you only have until Friday, May 21st to enter. Good luck!

Edited to add: I will ship internationally, and please make sure I can contact you somehow, or check back on Friday. Thanks!
